Derby ease past Alfreton in pre-season friendly

Alfreton Town hosted Derby County on a warm summer afternoon as both sides continued their pre-season preparations ahead of the new campaign. The home crowd created a decent atmosphere, but Derby arrived as clear favourites and quickly set about stamping their authority on the contest. The visitors controlled possession from the outset and looked purposeful in their approach, while Alfreton struggled to impose themselves on the match.

Alfreton pressed forward at times but lacked the quality and intensity to trouble a Derby side that managed the game with professionalism. Derby's defence remained solid throughout, and the visitors never looked like surrendering their two-goal cushion. Despite the difference in league status, Derby demonstrated they had the upper hand in most areas of the pitch.

The 0-2 defeat ends Alfreton's pre-season on a disappointing note, though such friendlies offer little bearing on competitive matters ahead. For Derby, the win provides encouragement going into their upcoming campaign, and both teams will have gained valuable minutes in the legs of their squad members. This was a good workout for the Rams, who'll look to build on this display when their competitive action begins.
