København edges past Viborg in pre-season friendly
FC København hosted Viborg FF on a summer evening at the Parken, with both sides using the fixture to build match sharpness ahead of their upcoming campaigns. The home crowd provided a warm atmosphere as the two Danish clubs locked horns in what proved to be an entertaining encounter. Neither side was willing to give much away early on, though Viborg showed they came to compete from the outset.
Viborg struck first when Ole Bundgaard found the net in the ninth minute, giving the visitors an unexpected advantage. The goal came against the run of play and forced København to respond. The home side levelled things before the break when Mohamed Elyounoussi finished smartly to make it 1-1 at half-time. Frederik Beijmo picked up a yellow card for København during this opening period as the intensity began to build.
The second half saw København take control of proceedings. Thomas Delaney restored the home side's advantage in the 64th minute with a clinical finish, putting København 2-1 ahead. Viborg battled hard to find an equaliser but København's defence remained resolute. An unnamed Viborg player was cautioned late on as frustrations boiled over, but København held firm to secure the win.
The victory gave København a positive result in their pre-season preparations, though both managers will have taken plenty from the contest. Viborg can take heart from their display despite the defeat, having shown they can trouble their opponents. For København, the win served as a useful tune-up with competitive football under their belts ahead of the season proper.
