Villarreal prove too strong for PSV in friendly opener

PSV pressed forward throughout but lacked the composure and cutting edge needed to mount a genuine comeback. Villarreal's defence settled into a comfortable rhythm once they established their lead, and the visitors managed the game with confidence in the closing stages. The yellow cards shown to S. Cardona, A. Diatta and S. Mouriño suggested occasional flare-ups in intensity, but nothing spiralled into real controversy.

Villarreal's commanding performance will have given their coaching staff plenty to work with ahead of the new campaign, while PSV face some honest questions about their preparation.
