Atlético Goianiense thrash Operário-PR with dominant home display
Atlético Goianiense made a perfect start at their home stadium, with Gustavo Coutinho firing them ahead in the third minute. The early goal set the tone for an attacking display from the hosts, who controlled possession and created space with sharp passing movements. G. Lopes received a yellow card in the tenth minute as the home side's aggressive approach occasionally tipped over into rough play, but their dominance in the opening stages was clear.
The hosts doubled their lead through G. Soares in the 31st minute, extending their advantage and seemingly putting the match beyond Operário-PR. However, the away side pulled one back before the interval when G. Boschilia converted from the penalty spot in the 45th minute, giving them hope heading into the second half. The penalty provided a spark for the visitors, who briefly looked capable of mounting a comeback after the break.
That hope proved short-lived. Marrony sealed the victory with a third goal for Atlético Goianiense in the 83rd minute, finishing off an afternoon that had belonged entirely to the home team. Marrony's effort earned him a yellow card in the 66th minute earlier in the second half, and Miranda also picked up a booking for Operário-PR during a frustrating spell. The visitors created little of note in the second period and never seriously threatened another comeback.
Atlético Goianiense's comfortable 3-1 win at home keeps their promotion push on track and sends a statement about their credentials in Serie B this season. Operário-PR, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly as their away record took another dent. The result leaves the home side in a strong position moving forward.
