Caen secure emphatic away victory at Stade Lavallois

Share

Stade Lavallois started brightly and took an early lead through J. Maggiotti in the 20th minute, setting the tone for what promised to be an engaging contest. The home side looked confident in possession during the opening stages, but their advantage was short-lived as Caen equalised through A. Gnanduillet just before the half-hour mark. The visiting team grew into the match as the first half progressed, and their levelling goal sparked a shift in momentum that would define the remainder of the encounter.

Caen took control after the restart and moved ahead through M. Hafid in the 54th minute, turning a one-goal deficit into a one-goal advantage. The away side's attacking intent became increasingly evident as they pressed forward with purpose, and they extended their lead further when F. E. Khoumisti converted a penalty in the 80th minute to make it 3-1. Stade Lavallois managed to pull one back through an own goal or own net effort in the 64th minute, but the damage had been done by that point. Caen sealed the victory with a fourth goal in the dying moments, finishing strongly to run out 4-2 winners.

The visitors demonstrated superior tactical discipline and clinical finishing throughout the second half, capitalising on their opportunities when they mattered most. Stade Lavallois began well enough but faded as the match wore on, unable to sustain the intensity required to match their opposition. Caen's attacking players combined well and moved the ball with fluidity, particularly in the latter stages when they had stretched the home defence.

For Caen, this commanding away victory will serve as a useful workout ahead of the new season, suggesting their attacking options are well-stocked and their team cohesion is developing nicely. Stade Lavallois will take some positives from their opening display but will know they need sharper performances if they are to compete at the required level.
