Fornalczyk fires Widzew to comfortable friendly victory
Widzew Łódź welcomed Puszcza Niepołomice to the Stadion Miejski on a warm Saturday afternoon as both sides continued their preparations for the new campaign. The home crowd turned out in decent numbers to watch their team work through the gears in what was a fairly routine encounter. Neither side came into the fixture with anything on the line beyond match fitness and tactical understanding, and that showed in the pace of play during the opening exchanges.
The breakthrough came in the 35th minute when M. Fornalczyk gave Widzew the lead with a well-taken finish. It was precisely the kind of goal the hosts needed at that stage of the half, giving them control of the contest and something to build on after a fairly even first half. Widzew never looked back from that point, managing the game with composure and pressing their advantage with growing authority as Puszcza struggled to find any rhythm going forward.
The visitors rarely threatened the Widzew defence in any meaningful way and offered little going forward throughout the 90 minutes. Puszcza's performance was largely forgettable, with their attacking players unable to test the home goalkeeper with any regularity. Widzew's midfield controlled possession effectively and prevented their guests from establishing any foothold in the match, though they might have expected a stronger showing from the opposition.
The final scoreline of 2-0 to the hosts represented a satisfactory afternoon's work for Widzew as they continue building momentum ahead of the competitive season. Their second goal secured a clean sheet and a convincing win, offering Łódź's coaching staff plenty of positives to take from the outing. Puszcza will need to regroup and improve significantly before their next fixture, while Widzew can feel pleased with how they controlled proceedings from start to finish.
