Aalesund and Molde share spoils in thrilling Eliteserien clash
The match at Aalesund's ground had barely got going when Kristoffer Rekdal was shown a yellow card in the opening minute, setting an early disciplinary tone. E. H. Osenbroch gave the hosts an ideal start by opening the scoring in the 14th minute, but Molde responded quickly through the visitors' own attacking threat. The away side found their equaliser four minutes later when O. Spiten-Nysæter got on the scoresheet, drawing Molde level at 1-1.
Molde went ahead before the interval when E. Hestad put the visitors 2-1 up in the 31st minute, putting them in a strong position at the break. Aalesund had it all to do in the second half against an increasingly confident Molde outfit. Spiten-Nysæter picked up a yellow card in the 63rd minute as the game grew heated, while Molde's disciplinary troubles mounted with further cautions for J. Abdullai in the 80th minute.
The hosts refused to lie down and mounted a sustained assault on the Molde goal as the match entered its final stages. M. Christensen struck with a crucial goal in the 90th minute to level the score at 2-2, earning Aalesund a deserved point. A. Kjelsen was booked late on as both sides battled for victory, but the draw held firm even as six minutes of stoppage time were added.
The point leaves both teams with work to do as the season progresses. Aalesund will reflect on what might have been had they managed to stay ahead early on, while Molde were unable to convert their strong second-half position into three points. This draw sets up an intriguing battle for bragging rights between the sides as the campaign continues.
