Bahia ends Chapecoense resistance with commanding home victory
Bahia made their intentions clear from the outset at the Estádio de Pituaçu, establishing early control and putting Chapecoense under immediate pressure. The home crowd sensed an opportunity and drove their side forward with genuine intensity. Chapecoense arrived looking to frustrate but found themselves on the back foot within minutes, struggling to gain any meaningful possession in the opening stages.
The breakthrough came in the 12th minute when R. Nestor converted from the penalty spot to give Bahia the lead. The decisive moment appeared to energise the home side, and they built on that advantage with clinical finishing. R. Gómez doubled Bahia's advantage in the 34th minute, and the visitors found themselves with a mountain to climb heading into the second half. Chapecoense offered little in response, and Bahia were able to manage the game without serious difficulty.
The second half saw Bahia maintain their grip on proceedings while Chapecoense struggled to create openings or apply sustained pressure. J. Guilherme picked up a yellow card in the 64th minute, a minor blemish for the home side who otherwise controlled the tempo throughout. Chapecoense never threatened to breach Bahia's defence, and the match became a comfortable afternoon for the hosts as the final whistle approached.
The 2-0 victory keeps Bahia's season on track and sends them up the table with an important three points. Chapecoense, meanwhile, remain winless and face serious questions about their form as the campaign progresses. Bahia showed exactly what's needed at this level with a composed, professional display at home.
