LAFC Dominates RSL With Clinical Home Performance
Los Angeles FC made their intentions clear from the start, attacking with purpose and intensity that Real Salt Lake struggled to match in the opening stages. The Banc of California was in full voice as the hosts pressed forward, and they were rewarded for their early aggression when Son Heung-min broke the deadlock in the 11th minute. The goal set the tone for what would become a dominant display from the home side, who controlled possession and dictated the tempo throughout the first half.
LAFC doubled their advantage before the break when Denis Bouanga finished clinically in the 40th minute, putting Real Salt Lake in a difficult position heading into the interval. The visitors looked bereft of ideas and struggled to create meaningful chances, with LAFC's defence and midfield working in harmony to snuff out any potential threats. The two-goal cushion gave the hosts the perfect platform to manage the contest and pick their moments to attack, and they did so with growing confidence as the half progressed.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with LAFC maintaining their superiority. An own goal from Dee Yedlin in the 68th minute extended the lead to 3-0 and appeared to have settled the matter beyond doubt. Real Salt Lake finally breached the LAFC defence when Léo Engel scored in the 86th minute, but it proved nothing more than a consolation as the home side cruised to victory in the closing stages.
This was a statement performance from Los Angeles FC, who will head into the next phase of the season with considerable momentum and confidence. Real Salt Lake, meanwhile, have work to do if they are to climb the western conference standings. The 3-1 scoreline flattered the visitors on a night when LAFC were simply the better team in almost every department, and the three points keep the home side firmly in contention for silverware.
