Austin FC Sink Sounders in Commanding Home Victory
Austin FC came into the match full of intensity and made their intent clear from the opening stages. The home crowd at Q2 Stadium created a hostile atmosphere for the visiting Sounders, and the hosts capitalised on that advantage early. Just 11 minutes in, Ignacio Sánchez broke the deadlock with a clinical finish to give Austin an ideal platform from which to build.
Seattle's response came swiftly, though. Fifteen minutes later, Paige Rothrock struck to level the match at 1-1, breathing life into the visitors' challenge. The game remained tightly contested through the middle phases, but discipline began to crumble. J. Ragen picked up a yellow card in the 59th minute for Seattle, before Austin's B. Sabović was cautioned shortly after. Yellow cards for both Ragen again and Austin's M. Uzuni in the late stages suggested tensions were rising as the match wore on.
Austin seized control in the closing stages, and the pressure told. Uzuni restored the home side's lead in the 86th minute, putting them back in front with just minutes remaining. Seattle's afternoon got worse when Ragen was sent off in the 90th minute, reducing them to ten men. Ramirez then sealed the victory in the final moments, adding a third goal for Austin to wrap up a comprehensive 3-1 win.
The result represents a significant three points for Austin FC at a crucial stage of the season. Their attacking threat proved too much for Seattle to handle, and the Sounders will head home with plenty to ponder after a disappointing showing. Austin's dominance in the closing stages and their ability to capitalise on numerical superiority underlined why they emerged as worthy victors on the night.
