Radomiak Edges Out Wieczysta in Eventful Home Opener
Radomiak Radom got their season underway with a hard-fought win against visiting Wieczysta Kraków on a warm July evening. The home side dominated long stretches of the opening period, though neither team managed to break the deadlock in a keenly contested first half. Wieczysta's discipline was tested early, with both A. Đermanović and D. Dujmović picking up yellow cards inside the opening eight minutes, setting a combative tone for the encounter.
The breakthrough came just before the interval when R. Alves fired Radomiak ahead in the 43rd minute. The hosts barely had time to settle into their lead before striking again early in the second half. J. Grzesik made it 2-0 in the 49th minute, putting Radomiak firmly in control and leaving Wieczysta facing an uphill battle. Kraków pulled one back through S. Feiertag in the 57th minute, breathing new life into the contest and setting up a tense conclusion.
Wieczysta pressed for an equaliser but could not find the finishing touch, though they came close on several occasions. Radomiak's defence stood firm under sustained pressure, and the visitors' task became impossible when M. Maigaard received a straight red card in the 90th minute for a serious offence. The numerical disadvantage ended any realistic hopes of a comeback for Wieczysta, who would rue missed chances throughout the second period.
Radomiak's 2-1 victory gave them a perfect start to the campaign and will provide confidence as they look ahead to their next fixture. Wieczysta head home empty-handed but showed enough attacking intent to suggest they will be competitive in the weeks ahead, despite the disappointing outcome on this occasion.
