Paulauskas and Kim secure away victory for Jeonbuk
Pohang Steelers came into this K League 1 clash hoping to build momentum at home, but they found Jeonbuk in no mood to oblige. The visitors started with clear intent and purpose, immediately setting the tone for what would prove to be a frustrating afternoon for the hosts. Pohang struggled to impose themselves early on, allowing Jeonbuk to control possession and territory in the opening stages.
Jeonbuk broke the deadlock just before half-time when Giedrius Paulauskas finished clinically in the 43rd minute to give the visitors a slender but valuable lead. The goal came at a crucial moment, allowing Jeonbuk to head into the interval with the advantage and leaving Pohang facing an uphill battle in the second half. Pohang's frustration boiled over somewhat, with centre-back Cho Sang-Hyeok receiving a yellow card in the 57th minute for a mistimed challenge. Jeonbuk midfielder J. Kim had also been cautioned in the first half, but his side's discipline held firm when it mattered most.
The home side huffed and puffed in search of a way back into the match, but Jeonbuk's defence remained resolute and well-organised throughout. Chances proved hard to come by for Pohang, who never quite managed to create the clear-cut opportunities needed to test goalkeeper and overturn the deficit. Jeonbuk's control of the game never wavered, and they essentially managed the contest in the closing stages with the composure of a side comfortable in their position.
Yeon-jin Kim put the result beyond doubt in the 90th minute, striking late to seal a convincing 0-2 away victory. The result represents an important three points for Jeonbuk in their quest for silverware, while Pohang must quickly dust themselves off and focus on bouncing back in their next outing. Jeonbuk showed exactly why they remain genuine contenders this season, dispatching their opponents with clinical efficiency when it mattered most.
