CSKA Sofia edges thriller against Botev in Parva Liga clash
CSKA Sofia and Botev Plovdiv served up an attacking spectacle at the Bulgarian champions' stadium on a warm summer evening. The home side came into the match as favourites and showed their intent from the opening stages, while Botev arrived ready to make life difficult for their hosts. The stage was set for an enthralling contest, and the early exchanges suggested both teams had come to play attacking football.
Botev struck first when C. A. López found the net in the 38th minute to give the visitors a shock lead. CSKA responded brilliantly before the break, however, as J. Zwarts levelled matters in the 41st minute to send the teams level at half-time. The momentum had shifted decisively towards the hosts, and their equaliser set the tone for what would follow in the second period. Both sides were now fully committed to finding a winner.
CSKA took control after the restart and went on to score twice more to secure victory. Despite a spirited Botev side that refused to lie down, the home team's quality showed through in the final stages. The visitors picked up three yellow cards through C. A. López, T. Awany and S. Kalu as the match became increasingly fractious, while Zwarts also saw yellow late on. CSKA's J. Zwarts and M. Brahimi had also been cautioned during the game.
The hosts claimed all three points with a 3-2 victory and showed their intent as serious contenders in the Parva Liga title race. Botev will feel they gave a good account of themselves away from home but ultimately fell short against a superior outfit. CSKA's attacking prowess proved decisive, and they will be looking to build on this performance as the season progresses.
