Wycombe edge entertaining friendly against Yeovil Town
Wycombe Wanderers made the perfect start to their friendly fixture against Yeovil Town, racing into an early lead when an unnamed striker found the net in the ninth minute. The home crowd at Adams Park had barely settled into their seats before the opener went in, setting the tone for an entertaining afternoon. Yeovil responded with plenty of attacking intent, and their pressure paid off when M. Obeng levelled the match in the 23rd minute with a well-taken finish. The visitors looked sharp going forward despite the deficit, keeping Wycombe's defence on their toes throughout the opening half.
Wycombe restored their lead before the break when another unnamed player restored their advantage with a strike in the 33rd minute. The hosts looked the more composed side as the first half wore on, though Yeovil continued to show glimpses of their attacking threat. Both teams had chances to extend their lead as the half progressed, but Wycombe's two-goal cushion looked enough heading into the interval.
The second half saw Wycombe extend their advantage further when an unnamed scorer made it 3-1 in the 51st minute, seemingly putting the match beyond Yeovil's reach. The home side controlled much of the play during this period, moving the ball well and creating space in dangerous areas. However, Yeovil refused to capitulate and mounted a spirited comeback, with L. McCormick pulling one back in the 62nd minute to set up a tense finale. Despite the Glovers pushing hard for an unlikely equaliser, Wycombe held firm to secure a comfortable win.
The victory gives Wycombe a positive result as their pre-season preparations continue, with their defence tested but ultimately effective against a determined Yeovil side. Both teams will take encouragement from their performances during what proved to be a competitive friendly encounter. For Wycombe, the win represents a solid platform heading into their next fixture, while Yeovil showed they can trouble higher-level opposition despite the defeat. The friendly served its purpose in shaking off the rust as both clubs edge closer to the new season.
