Bologna and Heidenheim Share Spoils in Friendly Stalemate
Bologna hosted Heidenheim on a warm summer's evening as both sides looked to build match fitness ahead of the new season. The atmosphere inside the stadium was relaxed but purposeful, with fans from both clubs settling in to watch their teams work through their pre-season preparations. Neither side appeared content to simply go through the motions, however, and the match quickly took on a competitive edge.
The Rossoblu broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when S. Castro found the back of the net to give Bologna an early advantage. The goal gave the home side a foothold in the contest and they looked the more comfortable team as the opening half progressed. That comfort proved short-lived, however, as Heidenheim levelled matters just nine minutes later through M. Pieringer, who restored parity with a well-taken finish on the half hour mark.
The equaliser seemed to settle Heidenheim and they grew into the match as the first half wore on. Bologna continued to press for another goal but found the Heidenheim defence increasingly resolute. The second half saw both teams create opportunities without either able to find a decisive breakthrough, and the intensity gradually ebbed away as the match wore on.
The draw proved a fair result on the night, with both sides having shown enough to suggest their preparations are progressing well. For Bologna and Heidenheim alike, the stalemate provided valuable minutes and experience as they continue their build-up to competitive action. Both managers will have gathered useful information despite neither claiming victory in what was ultimately an evenly contested affair.
