García and Miguelon Fire Castellón Past Sabadell
CD Castellón got their summer preparations underway with a solid victory over visiting CE Sabadell on a warm afternoon in the Valencian Community. The home side came into the match with clear intentions and quickly set about establishing control of proceedings. Sabadell, on their travels, found themselves under early pressure as Castellón moved the ball with purpose and intent.
The breakthrough came in the 16th minute when Á. García opened the scoring for the hosts, handing Castellón a deserved lead. Sabadell responded with typical visiting side resilience, refusing to fold despite going behind. The visitors created some opportunities of their own as the first half wore on, testing Castellón's resolve. However, any hopes of clawing back into the contest were extinguished just before the interval when Miguelon added a second goal in the 41st minute, putting the game beyond doubt. A yellow card for Á. Martín in the 30th minute had been an early warning sign for Castellón's discipline, and Sabadell's M. Codina also saw yellow in the 45th minute as tempers briefly flared.
The second half saw Castellón manage the game competently, content with their two-goal cushion and keen to avoid unnecessary injuries during the friendly. Sabadell worked hard to trouble the hosts but found little joy against a focused defensive unit. The away side's attacking options were limited, and Castellón's defence stood firm throughout the closing stages. Neither team added to the scoreline as the match petered out towards its conclusion.
Castellón will take plenty of confidence from this pre-season workout, with their attacking threat proving decisive and their defence sufficiently organised. The 2-0 victory provides Castellón with a solid platform to build on as they continue their summer programme. Sabadell, meanwhile, will view this as a useful outing and a chance to work on their match fitness ahead of their own campaign.
