Lille ease past La Louvière in comfortable friendly victory
Lille welcomed lower-division side RAAL La Louvière to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on a warm July evening for what proved to be a straightforward warm-up fixture. The home crowd sensed early that this would be a comfortable afternoon, and the French Ligue 1 outfit wasted little time asserting their superiority over their visitors.
The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute when S. Diaoune tucked away the opener, giving Lille the lead they deserved at that point. Just before the interval, G. Perrin doubled the advantage with a well-taken finish just before the whistle. La Louvière offered little in attack and found themselves two goals down heading into the second half with plenty of work to do.
The second period followed a predictable pattern, with Lille controlling possession and La Louvière struggling to create any meaningful chances. The visitors were largely restricted to defending, and their lack of firepower in attack became increasingly apparent as the half wore on. Lille added a third goal to complete a routine afternoon's work, though exact details of that final strike were not immediately clear from the action.
The 3-0 victory will have satisfied Lille's coaching staff ahead of their competitive campaign ahead. For La Louvière, the gulf in class proved too steep in this pre-season encounter. Lille will take confidence from the display as they continue their preparation for the season, while La Louvière will look to tighter fixtures against more evenly-matched opponents.
