Warrington and Macclesfield share spoils in entertaining friendly

Warrington Town and Macclesfield FC served up an entertaining spectacle on a warm July evening, with both sides looking sharp in their final preparations before the season proper gets underway. The friendly atmosphere was evident from the kickoff, with supporters from both clubs settling in for what promised to be a competitive 90 minutes. Neither team came to make up the numbers, and the quality on display suggested both could enjoy positive campaigns ahead.

Macclesfield struck first when Curtis Borthwick-Jackson found the net in the 31st minute, giving the visitors an early advantage. Warrington responded well to falling behind and levelled matters just before half-time through J. Scanlon, who restored parity in the 45th minute. The goal gave the hosts genuine momentum heading into the break, and there was a sense that Warrington had turned the tide after a slow start.

The second half saw Warrington take the lead for the first time when L. Earl finished well in the 68th minute to put the home side ahead. For much of the closing stages it looked as though Warrington might hold on for victory, but Macclesfield showed character and determination to draw level again. An own goal or error allowed Macclesfield to equalise at the 45-minute mark of the second period, keeping the match in the balance until the final whistle.

Both teams will take encouragement from the draw as they prepare for competitive action. Warrington showed they can fight back from adversity and create chances going forward, whilst Macclesfield demonstrated resilience and an ability to stay in matches. This entertaining fixture provided a useful workout for both sides and left supporters optimistic about the campaign ahead, with the 2-2 result a fair reflection of a closely contested encounter.
