HJK demolish Coleraine in Conference League rout
HJK came out with intent from the opening whistle, and the Finnish side's attacking intent was rewarded inside the first quarter of an hour. Lauri Möller broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, giving the home crowd something to celebrate early on. The visitors offered little resistance as the afternoon wore on, and HJK's superiority became increasingly apparent. Antti Ring picked up a yellow card in the 23rd minute as the home side pressed their advantage.
The floodgates opened before the interval when Pape Mentu doubled the lead in the 32nd minute, putting HJK firmly in control. Coleraine's defensive shape had already begun to crumble, and they appeared unable to stem the flow of attacks coming their way. By the time the teams headed in at half-time, the contest had effectively been decided, with the Northern Irish outfit facing an uphill battle.
The second half proved even more one-sided than the first. Teemu Mero made it three just two minutes after the restart, and Coleraine simply had no answers to HJK's relentless pressing and incisive football. Teemu Pukki added a fourth in the 80th minute before completing his brace two minutes later to seal a devastating 5-0 win. The Finnish side's attacking prowess was on full display throughout.
This was a comprehensive victory that sends HJK through to the next round with their confidence sky-high. Coleraine will rue a dismal defensive showing, but they were simply outclassed by a rampant home side. For HJK, this emphatic performance provides real momentum heading into the next stage of their European campaign.
