Adams brace carries Venezia past Modena in Coppa thriller

Modena arrived in Venice with clear attacking intent and struck first through Giovanni Ambrosino in the 17th minute, catching the home defence off guard. Venezia responded quickly, however, and Adams levelled matters nine minutes later with a composed finish. The away side found the net again before the break when Ambrosino converted his second of the evening in the 39th minute, leaving Modena leading at the interval.

The second half belonged entirely to Venezia. Adams completed his brace in the 85th minute to secure all three points, but not before Jacopo Yeboah had restored parity with a crucial goal in the 83rd minute. Modena's resilience had kept them within touching distance until that late surge, and they might have harboured hopes of a comeback when Yeboah's equaliser arrived. The introduction of fresh legs and a renewed attacking focus proved the difference for the hosts down the stretch.

Modena's disciplinary record deteriorated as the match wore on, with three yellow cards shown to their players across the second half, suggesting frustration had begun to set in. Venezia's own Riccardo Sagrado was also cautioned as tempers frayed in the closing stages. The visitors had chances to hurt Venezia but ultimately lacked the clinical finishing required to hold on when it mattered most.

This victory sends Venezia into the next round and rewards their ability to recover from going behind twice. Modena depart with their heads held high after a spirited display, but they could not quite find the finishing touch when opportunities arose. The margin was narrow enough to suggest both sides are competitive forces in this competition, though Venezia's greater control in the second half proved the decisive factor.
