Nashville edges Columbus in thrilling MLS encounter

Nashville SC secured a hard-fought 3-2 home victory over Columbus Crew, claiming the spoils of an absorbing contest that swung back and forth across the 90 minutes. The hosts made the ideal start, establishing early control and looking the sharper side throughout a competitive opening half.

Hany Mukhtar broke the deadlock in the 27th minute, giving Nashville the lead they had threatened to build. For much of the first half, that single goal looked as though it might prove decisive, with Columbus struggling to mount a serious challenge. But the away side emerged with renewed intent after the interval. Midfielder Cucho Farsi levelled for Columbus in the 58th minute, drawing them level at 1-1 and signalling a shift in momentum. Worse followed for Nashville when Aiden Gomes put Columbus ahead in the 68th minute, stunning the home crowd with what briefly looked like it might be a winning goal.

Nashville refused to fold. The hosts responded with urgency and found their equaliser before the hour mark expired, restoring parity and setting up a frantic final stretch. The decisive moment came when Nashville reclaimed the lead for a third time, securing the three points with a goal that proved to be the winner. Columbus pressed hard in the closing stages but could not find another equaliser, leaving Nashville to celebrate a resilient victory.

Both teams had chances to control the contest outright. Nashville's attacking play in the first half suggested they would run away with it, yet Columbus displayed character in coming back into the game when it mattered. The visitors' intensity after half-time caught Nashville off guard temporarily, but the home side's ability to stay composed and strike back was ultimately the difference.

Diego Lovitz received a yellow card for Nashville in the 39th minute, while Columbus' Cucho Ruvalcaba was cautioned in the 49th. Neither team was forced to operate with a significant numbers disadvantage, though discipline remained important in a match that threatened to boil over at times. Nashville's defensive shape tightened considerably in the final stages, absorbing pressure and seeing out the game professionally.

The victory moves Nashville up the standings and provides momentum heading into their next fixture, while Columbus will rue their failure to hold on after going ahead. For Nashville, the ability to come from behind twice demonstrated the resilience required to compete at the highest level of MLS.
