Wynnum Wolves triumph away at Gold Coast Knights
Gold Coast Knights and Wynnum Wolves FC served up an engaging contest under Friday night lights at the home ground. The Knights controlled much of the early possession but found themselves up against a well-organised visiting side. Wynnum came to the Gold Coast with clear defensive shape and looked dangerous on the counter-attack from the opening whistle.
The breakthrough arrived in the 29th minute when Gold Coast Knights found the back of the net. The home crowd lifted, sensing their side might seize control of the match. However, Wynnum Wolves refused to be deflated by falling behind. The visitors regrouped and pushed forward with purpose, creating chances of their own as the first half wore on.
Wynnum's persistence paid dividends as they hauled themselves level before the interval, sparking a complete shift in momentum. The away side carried that energy into the second half and went on to take the lead, turning the match decisively in their favour. Gold Coast tried to respond but couldn't find the breakthrough they needed as Wynnum's backline held firm under pressure. The visitors managed the closing stages with composure to seal a hard-fought 2-1 win.
The result sends Wynnum Wolves back home with confidence after a commanding away display, while Gold Coast Knights will be disappointed to have let a winning position slip through their fingers. Both teams now turn their focus to their next fixtures as the NPL Queensland season continues its run toward the business end of the campaign.
