Sturm Graz écrase Hearts lors des qualifications de la Ligue des champions

SK Sturm Graz made a devastating start to their Champions League second qualifying round tie against Heart of Midlothian, striking inside the opening five minutes to set the tone for what would become a thoroughly one-sided encounter. The Austrian side's home advantage was immediately apparent as they pressed high and moved the ball with pace and precision, leaving the Scottish visitors struggling to gain a foothold in the match.

Jovan G. Stanković gave Sturm Graz the perfect start when he found the net after just four minutes, and the hosts showed no mercy in their pursuit of further goals. Hearts offered little resistance in the opening half, and their defensive frailties were cruelly exposed after the interval when Mitchell doubled the advantage in the 50th minute. The floodgates opened rapidly as Lukas Weinhandl made it 3-0 just three minutes later, and when Jürgen Heil added a fourth in the 59th minute, the contest had effectively been settled. A yellow card for Stanković in the 56th minute did little to dampen Sturm Graz's momentum as they cruised towards a commanding 4-0 success.

Hearts' disciplinary record was marred by bookings for O. McEntee in the 47th minute and A. Ba-Sy in the 86th minute, but the Scottish club's problems ran far deeper than poor discipline. They rarely threatened the Sturm Graz goal and appeared unable to match the intensity and quality of their opponents, offering little attacking threat throughout the ninety minutes.

The scale of this victory puts SK Sturm Graz firmly in the driving seat ahead of the return leg, while Heart of Midlothian face a monumental task to salvage anything from their European campaign. For Sturm Graz, this was a statement of intent in the competition, and they will travel to Edinburgh with supreme confidence.
