Cincinnati edges Whitecaps in seven-goal thriller
FC Cincinnati came out firing on a warm July evening at TQL Stadium, and the home crowd barely had time to settle before Pape Bucha broke the deadlock in the ninth minute. The early goal set the tone for an attacking display from the hosts, though Vancouver responded quickly through Jaysen Badwal's equaliser just three minutes later. The intensity never let up as both sides pushed forward relentlessly, with the visiting Whitecaps drawing level suggesting they would be no easy pushover despite playing away from home.
Bucha struck again in the 28th minute to restore Cincinnati's lead, and the home team looked to be taking control of the contest. Ryan Gauld levelled matters once more for Vancouver just four minutes later with a well-taken finish that kept the visitors in the fight. Evander then added a third for Cincinnati in the 36th minute, giving the hosts what appeared to be a commanding position at the halfway point. The end-to-end nature of the match had the crowd on their feet throughout, with neither side prepared to sit back and absorb pressure.
Cincinnati's Pape Bucha completed his brace in the 56th minute to make it 4-2, seemingly putting the game beyond Vancouver's reach. But Gauld grabbed his second goal just two minutes later to set up a tense finale, with the Whitecaps refusing to lie down despite being two goals adrift. Yellow cards flew throughout the second half as emotions intensified, with both teams showing the strain of trying to impose themselves on a match that had become increasingly frantic.
Cincinnati held firm to secure the 4-3 victory and claim all three points at home. The win moves the hosts up the standings and gives them real momentum heading into their next fixture, while Vancouver will rue their inability to find a breakthrough despite their second-half resurgence. It was a performance that showcased both the attacking prowess and defensive vulnerabilities of both MLS sides on a night of compelling football.
