Priske Settles East Midlands Friendly for Birmingham
Burton Albion and Birmingham City locked horns at the Pirelli Stadium in what proved to be a low-key affair between two of the region's neighbours. The crowd settled in for a competitive friendly encounter, with both sides using the fixture to build momentum ahead of their respective campaigns. Neither team looked particularly threatening in the opening exchanges, though there was enough endeavour on display to suggest both sides were taking the fixture seriously.
The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute when Alessio Priske found the net for Birmingham City. The goal gave the visitors a foothold in the contest and seemed to lift their confidence considerably. From that point forward, Birmingham controlled proceedings with relative ease, while Burton struggled to create genuine opportunities to level the score.
As the second half progressed, Burton pressed forward in search of an equaliser but failed to trouble Birmingham's defence with any real consistency. The hosts huffed and puffed without ever looking like they would find a breakthrough, and Birmingham's backline held firm throughout. The visitors managed the game well and could have extended their advantage on several occasions, but ultimately settled for the narrow margin they had established.
The final whistle confirmed Birmingham's 1-0 victory, a pleasing result in the pre-season schedule for the away side. For Burton, the defeat will serve as a reminder of the work still required before their opening league fixture. Both clubs will take what they learned into their next warm-up matches as they prepare for the season ahead.
