Southampton s'impose facilement face à Eastleigh lors d'un test amical

Eastleigh made a bright start at home and actually took the lead through N. Akoto in the 14th minute, giving the hosts early encouragement. Southampton, however, showed the composure and quality expected of a higher-league side and quickly turned the game on its head. L. Dobbin levelled matters just eleven minutes later with a well-taken finish, and the away side never looked back after that.

The visiting team took control in the minutes that followed, with N. Oyekunle adding a second goal just four minutes after Dobbin's equaliser to put Southampton 2-1 ahead. Eastleigh had it all to do from that point, and despite their efforts in the middle stages of the match, they found Southampton's defence increasingly difficult to break down. The home side created chances but lacked the clinical finishing needed to trouble the scoreline.

Southampton added gloss to their performance late on when an own goal in the 78th minute extended their lead to 3-1, essentially settling the contest. By that stage, the visitors were in complete control and managed the closing stages with ease. Eastleigh never seriously threatened another comeback, and Southampton's superior fitness and tactical discipline shone through.

The result gives Southampton valuable match practice ahead of the new season, and they will be pleased with how they responded to going behind early on. Eastleigh can take some positives from their opening play but will know they need to tighten up defensively for their remaining pre-season fixtures. This was a useful workout for both sides, though Southampton's winning performance suggests they are further along in their preparations.
