Ebbsfleet Stun Tottenham XI in Summer Friendly
Ebbsfleet United made the perfect start against their Premier League visitors, with the home crowd sensing an opportunity to upset the odds. The National League side's energy and commitment set the tone early, and it paid dividends inside 12 minutes when D. Ogunleye fired them ahead. Tottenham offered little resistance in the opening stages, appearing somewhat disjointed as they searched for their rhythm against an organized and hungry opponent.
The visitors levelled matters in the 25th minute through a goal that drew their side level, but Ebbsfleet refused to wilt under the pressure. Instead, the hosts struck again just before the interval when O. Box restored their lead in the 37th minute. By half-time, Ebbsfleet had earned their 2-1 advantage and looked capable of holding their own against a Spurs XI that seemed to lack the sharpness required to take control of the game.
The second half saw Tottenham push for an equaliser, but Ebbsfleet's defence stood firm and limited the visitors to few clear openings. The north London side struggled to convert their possession into genuine attacking threat, while Ebbsfleet remained dangerous on the break. Despite Tottenham's attempts to find a way back into the match, the home side's resolve never wavered and they saw out the victory with relative comfort.
The 2-1 result represented an outstanding afternoon for Ebbsfleet, who showed they could compete with more exalted opposition. For Tottenham, the defeat came as a reminder that pre-season requires proper intensity and focus, even against lower-league opponents. Both teams will take different lessons from the encounter as they continue their preparations for the competitive season ahead.
