San Jose Earthquakes came out fast and took the lead in the fourth minute when P. Judd finished after E. Löwen set him up. The home side doubled their advantage on 24 minutes with E. Löwen's goal, assisted by B. Leroux. Judd added a second moments later in the 29th minute, with P. Marie providing the assist. Judd was shown a yellow card in the 30th minute as San Jose built a commanding 3-0 lead.
Portland Timbers pulled one back in the 86th minute when D. Da Costa scored with E. Izoita assisting, but it came too late to change the course of the match. San Jose Earthquakes held on for a 3-1 victory over Portland Timbers.
