Altach dominate friendly with emphatic home victory
SCR Altach made a blistering start to proceedings, racing into a two-goal lead inside the opening eight minutes. The Austrian side's early pressure paid dividends as they struck twice before many supporters had settled into their seats, creating an uphill task for the Swiss visitors. Grasshopper Club Zürich looked shell-shocked in the opening quarter but managed to pull one back through N. Muci on the 19th minute, bringing some respectability to the scoreline.
The goal gave the away side a foothold in the contest, though Altach remained firmly in control of the tempo and chances. Despite Grasshopper's improvement after their goal, the home team continued to dominate possession and territory throughout the first half. The visitors created occasional openings on the break but found little way through a well-organised Altach defence that dealt confidently with any threat posed.
Altach sealed the points with a third goal on the 68th minute, extending their advantage and putting the result beyond doubt. By that stage, any remaining hope of a Grasshopper comeback had evaporated. The hosts managed the closing stages with relative comfort, protecting their lead without being tested significantly in the final twenty minutes. The home supporters left satisfied with a convincing display.
For Altach, this friendly proved an ideal warm-up before their competitive fixtures resume, with their attacking potency on full display. Grasshopper Club Zürich, meanwhile, will need to address some defensive fragility when they return to action. Both sides will take different lessons from an encounter that showed just how much more work lies ahead during pre-season.
