Talvitie Fires Lommel Past Go Ahead Eagles
Lommel SK hosted Go Ahead Eagles on a warm July evening in what proved to be a competitive pre-season contest between the two sides. The home crowd created a decent atmosphere as both teams looked to build match sharpness ahead of their respective campaigns. This was the kind of fixture designed to test defensive shape and attacking patterns before the serious business of the season began.
J. Talvitie broke the deadlock just before half-time to give Lommel the advantage going into the break. The goal came at a crucial moment, allowing the hosts to head to the dressing room with something to protect. Go Ahead Eagles would have been frustrated to concede on the stroke of half-time after competing well in the opening 45 minutes.
The second half saw Go Ahead Eagles respond with genuine intent to pull themselves back into the match. They found an equaliser through their own efforts, drawing level and setting up a tense closing period. Lommel, however, refused to buckle and managed to restore their lead before the final whistle, securing a 2-1 victory. The Belgian side showed the kind of resilience and composure you need in friendly fixtures to build confidence.
For Lommel, this win provided a morale-boosting start to their preparations. Go Ahead Eagles will take positives from their attacking play but know they need to be sharper at the back. Both teams have their friendlies to fine-tune before league football returns.
