Lechia Stuns Warta with Away Victory in Friendly
Warta Poznań played host to Lechia Zielona Góra in a pre-season friendly that quickly developed into a tight contest. The home side looked to shake off rust ahead of the new campaign while their visitors sought early momentum. Poznań's supporters turned out in decent numbers despite the mid-summer timing, creating a brisk atmosphere at the stadium.
Lechia made the brighter start and took the lead through Damian Wiecek in the 10th minute. The away team's early pressure paid off as they caught Warta cold, but the hosts responded well to falling behind. Warta then drew level through a penalty converted by Mateusz Stefaniak in the 23rd minute after an infringement in the box. The spot kick gave the home crowd something to celebrate and shifted momentum back in their favour.
Lechia regrouped at the restart and restored their advantage just before half-time when Damian Debski scored in the 44th minute. The goal proved decisive as the visitors held firm after the break, weathering Warta's attempts to find another equaliser. Despite sustained pressure from the home side in the second half, Lechia's defence stood resolute and managed the game effectively down the stretch. Neither side created clear-cut chances that might have altered the outcome.
The 2-1 scoreline represented a solid afternoon's work for Lechia Zielona Góra, who showed their credentials in a competitive environment away from home. For Warta, the defeat offered useful lessons ahead of their competitive fixtures, though they will take encouragement from their ability to get back into the match. Both teams can build on what they learned as pre-season preparations continue.
