Homburg comes from behind to beat Ravensburg in friendly
FV Ravensburg hosted FC 08 Homburg in a Club Friendly on 22 July as both sides continued their preparations for the season ahead. The home crowd settled in for what promised to be a competitive workout, though neither team could be accused of taking their foot off the gas. What unfolded was an entertaining encounter with plenty of goalmouth action and changing momentum.
Homburg struck first when T. Steinmetz found the net in the 29th minute, giving the visitors an early foothold in the match. Ravensburg responded quickly just seven minutes later as J. Roden doubled Homburg's lead with a goal in the 36th minute, and it appeared the away side had seized control of proceedings. The hosts pulled one back through an own goal or defensive error in the 62nd minute to set up an intriguing second half, but Homburg remained composed and dangerous on the break.
The tempo intensified as the match wore on. Roden struck again in the 54th minute to restore Homburg's two-goal advantage, seemingly putting the contest beyond reach. Ravensburg refused to surrender, however, and M. Mahle grabbed a second for the hosts in the 78th minute to narrow the deficit. Despite sustained late pressure, Ravensburg could not find an equaliser, and Homburg held firm to secure a 2-3 victory.
The win provides Homburg with valuable match fitness and confidence ahead of the competitive season, while Ravensburg will reflect on what might have been had they been more clinical in front of goal. Both teams gained useful information from the encounter, though Homburg's ability to control the match and see out the result will have pleased their coaching staff most.
