Beerschot stun Duisburg with four-goal away display
MSV Duisburg started brightly and took the lead through P. Remmert in the 12th minute, giving the home crowd early encouragement. The hosts looked comfortable in possession, but Beerschot responded swiftly with B. V. d. Eynden equalising just four minutes later to level the contest. From that point onwards, the Belgian visitors began to assert themselves and the momentum shifted noticeably away from the home team.
Beerschot's attacking prowess became increasingly difficult for Duisburg to handle as the first half progressed. G. Haraguchi restored the visitors' advantage in the 24th minute before A. H. Mohamed extended their lead to 3-1 just before the interval. The goals kept coming for the away side when A. Vula made it 4-1 in the 41st minute, effectively settling the contest before half-time. Duisburg's defensive frailties were brutally exposed during this spell, with Beerschot's forwards operating with real confidence and precision in front of goal.
The second half proved a more one-sided affair as Beerschot controlled proceedings with relative ease. Duisburg managed to pull one goal back but lacked the urgency and cohesion required to mount any serious comeback against their visitors. Beerschot's organisation at the back prevented any real threat from materialising, and the Belgian outfit cruised to a comfortable victory.
The comprehensive defeat will give Duisburg plenty to work on as they prepare for the new season, whilst Beerschot will take considerable confidence from their performance on the road. This friendly outing showcased the quality within the visiting squad and their ability to exploit defensive vulnerabilities at pace. Beerschot's 4-2 away victory represents a statement of intent, particularly given the clinical nature of their attacking play throughout the 90 minutes.
