AZ démolit Utrecht avec une prestation impitoyable en seconde période

FC Utrecht began brightly but found themselves undone by an AZ Alkmaar side that turned the match on its head after the interval. The home side's backline looked vulnerable from the opening stages, with yellow cards flowing early as both teams probed for weaknesses. By the break, however, Utrecht had managed to keep the score level, though the warning signs were there for all to see.

Patrik Koopmeiners struck first with a well-taken finish at the stroke of half-time, but the real damage came in a devastating eight-minute spell after the restart. Wout Patati made it 0-2 within two minutes of the restart, and before Utrecht could gather their thoughts, Meerdink added a third to leave the home crowd stunned. The floodgates had opened and AZ were playing with a precision and tempo that Utrecht simply could not match. Andrej Stepanov pulled one back for the hosts in the 62nd minute, but it merely delayed the inevitable.

Utrecht's discipline deteriorated as the match wore on, picking up a succession of yellow cards as frustration mounted. AZ controlled the tempo with ease, dictating possession and limiting Utrecht to desperate long balls and set-piece opportunities. The visitors' midfield dominated the central areas, and their backline remained organized despite having the game won long before the final whistle.

Azzedine Oufkir sealed the victory with a fourth goal in the 84th minute, confirming a comprehensive away triumph. This emphatic result marks a statement of intent from AZ Alkmaar at the start of the new season, while Utrecht faces tough questions about their defensive organization and response to early adversity.
