Arouca atropelou o Moreirense com uma vitória em casa por quatro gols

FC Arouca made a statement in their opening fixture of the Liga Portugal Betclic season, dispatching Moreirense with a one-sided display that left the visitors with nowhere to hide. The home side controlled possession from the start and translated that dominance into a commanding scoreline. Moreirense offered little resistance and departed with a heavy defeat on their hands.

The breakthrough came early when Maracás turned the ball into his own net in the 23rd minute, handing Arouca the lead through the most unfortunate of circumstances. Seven minutes later, J. Fontán extended that advantage with a well-taken finish to make it 2-0 before half-time. I. Barbero added a third just before the interval to leave the contest effectively settled. Moreirense's defending was poor throughout those opening 45 minutes, with the away side unable to fashion any meaningful attacking threat of their own.

The second half saw Arouca manage the game rather than press for further damage, though Barbero's goal had already put the result beyond reasonable doubt. Cards accumulated on both sides as the match lost its intensity, with Moreirense picking up four yellow cards to Arouca's two. The visitors struggled to build any coherent play and posed no genuine danger to the home defence at any stage.

This result sets Arouca up nicely for what lies ahead in the Portuguese top flight, while Moreirense face an early reality check and urgent questions about their preparations for the season. The scale of the defeat leaves little doubt about which team was superior on the day.
