L’avantage du carton rouge de Nacional scelle la victoire lors de la journée d’ouverture

CD Nacional's home campaign began with a commanding display against ten-man Estoril Praia. The visitors' task became impossible when Xeka received a second yellow card in the 32nd minute, leaving Estoril with a mountain to climb from that point onwards. Nacional controlled proceedings thereafter, managing the game with the composure of a side playing with a clear numerical advantage.

The breakthrough came in the 68th minute when Zé Vitor found the net to finally open the scoring. Nacional had threatened throughout but lacked the cutting edge to capitalise on their dominance until that moment. The goal settled the hosts and allowed them to play with even greater freedom on the field.

Matheus Dias saw yellow in the 51st minute as Nacional felt the referee's attention themselves, though the dismissal of Xeka had already shaped the match's trajectory. Estoril never recovered from their early disadvantage and failed to register any meaningful chances to trouble the Nacional defence. The away side's hopes of a positive start evaporated once they fell to ten men.

Nacional's 2-0 victory laid down a strong marker for the season ahead. The home side will be buoyed by their performance against a struggling opponent, though they will know stiffer tests await. For Estoril, the early red card condemned them to defeat and made their task of climbing the table harder from the outset.
