Chicago Fire écrase les Portland Timbers dans une leçon magistrale de buts précoces

Chicago Fire took control from the opening whistle and made their dominance count with two goals before the quarter-hour mark. Robin Lod broke the deadlock in the ninth minute, settling the hosts into their rhythm, and D. T. D'Avilla doubled the advantage just five minutes later. Portland Timbers found themselves chasing the game almost immediately, facing the challenge of pulling back a two-goal deficit against a team that had already shown ruthless efficiency in front of goal.

The visiting side pressed hard throughout the middle stages, though their chances remained limited against a Fire defence that held firm under pressure. Yellow cards arrived sporadically, with Bye cautioned for Portland in the 51st minute, followed by Lod receiving a yellow for Chicago in the 57th. The game settled into a pattern of Portland probing without genuine penetration, while Chicago managed the match with the composure of a side confident in their lead.

Desperation finally yielded a breakthrough for Portland when Fanendo Surman struck in the 85th minute, pulling one back and briefly threatening to shift momentum. A late caution for Salétros suggested rising tensions as Portland chased an equaliser in the closing minutes. The home side's defensive discipline held, however, and Chicago Fire saw out the final moments to secure the victory.

This win keeps Chicago Fire competitive in their playoff push, while Portland Timbers must regroup after a performance where early defensive lapses proved ultimately costly. The three points represent a crucial step forward for the hosts as the season enters its decisive phase.
