Montréal stupéfie le Crew avec une victoire à l’extérieur à Columbus

Columbus Crew's defensive fragility proved costly as CF Montréal made their early pressure count in Ohio. The visitors broke the deadlock inside five minutes when P. Owusu found the net, catching a home side that looked undercooked from the opening whistle. Montréal's intensity forced errors, and Columbus would pay the price again in the 20th minute when T. Gillier's own goal doubled the away team's advantage. At that point, the Crew faced an uphill battle against opponents who had seized control before many in the stadium had settled into their seats.

Columbus pulled one back through Gillier's misfortune but never truly threatened an equaliser despite sustained possession in the second half. The home side huffed and puffed without finding the cutting edge, while Montréal absorbed the pressure with the discipline of a team playing for a result. Both sides collected yellow cards as the match grew increasingly fractious, with R. Camacho booked early for Columbus and B. Vera, J. Neal, B. Ceballos, and M. Longstaff all cautioned at various points for the visitors.

Montréal sealed the win in the 78th minute when N. Streit's goal put the contest beyond doubt. Columbus threw bodies forward in search of a lifeline, but the damage was done. The Crew's habit of conceding from set pieces and defensive lapses had handed Montréal everything they needed.

This was a comprehensive away victory that exposed serious shortcomings in Columbus's backline. Montréal's willingness to press early and capitalize on mistakes proved the difference, while the Crew's inability to match that intensity from the start left them chasing a game they never controlled. For Columbus, the result will demand urgent answers about their defensive organization ahead of upcoming fixtures.
