Timbers Cruise Past San Diego in Dominant Home Display

Portland Timbers dominated proceedings at home and ran out 3-1 winners over San Diego FC, moving the hosts closer to a playoff position. The Timbers struck first through Knut Velde in the 29th minute, establishing early control that would define much of the encounter. Despite conceding a yellow card to Alfredo Lassiter in the 17th minute, Portland's early intensity never wavered and they looked the more dangerous team throughout the opening period.

By that stage, San Diego's resistance had crumbled completely and the Timbers controlled possession and territory at will. The away side managed little more than occasional forays forward, lacking the cutting edge needed to trouble a confident Portland defence led by their increasingly dominant players as the match progressed.

The comprehensive win keeps Portland's season on track and provides genuine momentum heading into their next fixture. San Diego, by contrast, will need to regroup and rediscover their shape after a second-half collapse. Lassiter's yellow card aside, the Timbers avoided further disciplinary trouble, with only Kelsy receiving a caution late on for Portland and Verhoeven for San Diego as the match wound down over the added six minutes of stoppage time.
