Karlsruher bat Münster au premier tour de la DFB Pokal

Preußen Münster 1-2 Karlsruher SC was decided by clinical finishing from the visitors, who overcame an early deficit to secure passage through the competition's opening stage. Karlsruher arrived in Münster as the favourites on paper, yet found themselves chasing the game from early in the first half when the hosts struck first.

Münster's opener came through M. Ndikom in the 35th minute, handing the home side a significant advantage at that stage. Karlsruher responded with composure rather than panic, however, finding their rhythm as the first half wore on. The away side equalised before the interval, levelling the match and carrying momentum into the break at 1-1.

What distinguished the second half was Karlsruher's superior control and penetration. They turned the screw after the restart, pressing higher and exposing gaps in Münster's defending. A second Karlsruher goal shifted the entire complexion of the tie, moving the visitors ahead 1-2 and forcing Münster into desperate attacking mode. From that point, Karlsruher managed the game with the discipline of a side assured of their technical superiority.

Münster threw bodies forward in search of an equaliser as the match wore on, but Karlsruher's defence held firm. The home side lacked the invention to break down an increasingly compact visiting backline. Possession counted for little without the quality of chance creation, and Karlsruher's goalkeeping and defensive shape kept Münster at arm's length throughout the closing stages.

Neither side received significant punishment from the referee, suggesting a reasonably clean contest. Karlsruher's management of the closing minutes reflected a team content with their lead, while Münster's commitment never wavered despite the mounting evidence the tie was slipping away. The away victory sends Karlsruher into the next round with genuine momentum, their composure under pressure the defining characteristic of a genuinely professional performance.
