O Leverkusen supera Wiesbaden em exibição dominante da DFB Pokal
SV Wehen Wiesbaden offered little resistance as Bayer 04 Leverkusen delivered a clinical demolition in round one of the DFB Pokal. The home side never threatened to unsettle their visitors, who moved through the gears methodically to establish complete control. By the end, the scoreline of SV Wehen Wiesbaden 0-4 Bayer 04 Leverkusen reflected the gulf in class between Bundesliga opposition and a side competing at the top flight.
Patrik Schick broke the deadlock before half-time in the 43rd minute, giving Leverkusen a commanding advantage. Wiesbaden had offered some resistance up to that point, but the opening goal shifted the momentum decisively. The away side turned the screw immediately after the break when Luis Vázquez doubled the lead in the 47th minute, leaving the home crowd with little hope of a comeback. Nico Tella added a third in the 69th minute to put the result beyond any doubt, with the scoreline rapidly turning into a rout.
What happened after the interval proved fatal for Wiesbaden's hopes. Leverkusen emerged with renewed intensity and began picking apart a tired defence with ease. The second and third goals arrived with such speed and efficiency that Wiesbaden simply could not establish any foothold in the match, and their task became impossible once Vázquez had made it 0-2 just minutes into the second half.
Leverkusen controlled possession throughout and converted their chances with clinical precision. Wiesbaden struggled to mount any meaningful attacks and were reduced to occasional bursts of pressure that came to nothing. The away side's dominance was total, allowing their defence to sit deep and protected whilst the midfield dictated play. Wiesbaden's best efforts amounted to scattered half-chances that never truly troubled the visitors.
Two yellow cards for Wiesbaden, shown to Filip Greilinger in the 22nd minute and Gerrit Fechner in the 64th minute, reflected the home side's growing frustration as the gulf widened. Neither caution proved decisive to the match's outcome, but they underscored how the contest slipped away as Leverkusen's quality became increasingly apparent. The away side progressed to the next round without being tested, their superiority never in question. For Wiesbaden, the challenge now turns to their league campaign after this emphatic cup exit.
