Gladbach destroza a Maguncia en la goleada de DFB Pokal

TSV Schott Mainz found themselves under siege from the opening exchanges as Borussia M'gladbach's attacking intent proved far too sharp for a home defence that struggled to contain their visitors. The Rhineland club carved through their opponents with clinical efficiency, establishing an early command that would only intensify as the afternoon wore on.

Henrik Bolin got Gladbach rolling in the 22nd minute, firing past the Mainz goalkeeper to open the scoring. Three minutes later, D. Hashioka doubled the advantage to leave the hosts already trailing by two goals before the half-hour mark. Bolin struck again just after the interval, registering his second of the afternoon in the 48th minute to put the result beyond meaningful doubt. By the time L. Ullrich added a fourth in the 61st minute, Mainz were merely going through the motions, with W. Mohya completing the demolition in the 67th minute.

The second half belonged entirely to Gladbach. Having entered the break with a commanding 2-0 advantage, they emerged with an intensity that rendered Mainz's defending almost academic. The home side never threatened a comeback and instead found themselves chasing shadows as their visitors controlled possession and manufactured openings at will. Bolin's early second-half goal set the tone for what would be a procession rather than a contest.

K. Diks received a yellow card late in the first half for Borussia M'gladbach, a caution that had little bearing on the visitors' dominance. The discipline shown by both teams remained largely professional throughout, with neither side requiring significant intervention from the referee. Gladbach's superiority was so pronounced that card counts became irrelevant to the narrative of the match.

This comprehensive victory sends Borussia M'gladbach into the next round with serious momentum, their away form already a statement of intent in cup competition. For Mainz, the heavy defeat offers little but regret and a clear reminder of the gulf that separated the two sides. Gladbach's movement, finishing, and tactical control left no room for debate about which team belonged in the next stage.
