Giroud e Santos selam a vitória fora de casa do Lille em Angers

Lille arrived at the Stade Raymond Kopa with clear attacking intent and showed it from the opening minutes. Angers, looking to build on their season's start, found themselves under immediate pressure and struggled to establish any sustained attacking rhythm of their own. The visitors' early dominance would prove the foundation for everything that followed.

Olivier Giroud broke the deadlock in the 11th minute, giving Lille a foothold they would not relinquish. Twenty minutes later, Tiago Santos extended the lead to 0-2, and with that second goal the match took on a fundamentally different character. Angers had offered little in response and faced a steep climb back into the contest.

The second half brought no comeback. Instead, Lille controlled proceedings with the confidence of a team that had already settled the business. Angers pushed forward in search of a route back into the game, but their attacking forays lacked the precision and coordination needed to trouble Lille's defence with any consistency. By that stage, the away side had already begun to manage the game rather than extend their advantage.

Both teams' midfields competed fairly evenly in the latter stages, though Lille's superior threat on the break kept Angers on their heels whenever possession changed hands. The home side created few clear chances of note and never truly threatened a comeback. Lille's shape and discipline in the final third meant that defensive solidity rather than spectacular saves decided the contest.

Alexandre Bermont's yellow card for Angers in the 22nd minute came early enough to keep him influential for the rest of the match, though his team's broader struggles had little to do with disciplinary issues. Rather, Lille's clinical finishing and composed play separated the two sides across the 90 minutes. This was a straightforward away win that suggests Lille are building real momentum early in the season, while Angers have work to do if they are to mount a serious challenge for a European place.
