Chelsea's Early Strike Holds Off Fulham Comeback

Chelsea arrived at Craven Cottage and made their intentions clear from the opening moments, striking within the first minute through João Pedro. The away side's early aggression set the tone for a match that would swing between periods of control and desperate Fulham resistance. Fulham steadied themselves and gradually worked their way into the game, though Chelsea's early lead gave them a psychological advantage neither team would fully shake.

The opening half belonged to neither side decisively. Jaydon King levelled for Fulham in the 23rd minute, breathing fresh life into the home crowd and shifting momentum back toward the hosts. Yet Chelsea responded with brutal efficiency, Mason Rogers restoring their lead just before the interval with a second goal that left Fulham trailing 1-2 at the break. Both teams had created chances, but clinical finishing at either end remained the difference between them.

Chelsea made the decisive move early in the second half when Cole Palmer fired them into a 3-1 lead within four minutes of the restart. The goal seemed to have settled the match decisively in Chelsea's favour. However, Fulham refused to surrender. Gonzalo García pulled one back in the 54th minute to set up a tense closing stage where the hosts pressed for an equaliser that never came.

Fulham dominated possession in the final quarter and created openings as Chelsea dropped deeper, inviting pressure onto their own goal line. The home side's attacking intent grew increasingly frantic as the minutes ticked down, but Chelsea's defence held firm when it mattered most. Chances came and went for the hosts, yet their inability to convert when it counted proved their downfall in what became a testing away performance for the visitors.

Chelsea's early yellow cards to Levi Colwill and Romeo Lavia suggested some defensive uncertainty early on, yet neither caution undermined their overall resolve. Fulham will reflect on missed opportunities and their slow start, having shown genuine character to claw their way back into the contest only to fall short. For Chelsea, the win on the road represents a statement of intent at the start of the season, even if it required weathering a determined second-half storm from their west London neighbours.
