Dinamo Zagreb et Viking se sont nul lors d’un tourbillon de barrages de la Ligue des champions

GNK Dinamo Zagreb came flying out of the blocks at home, seizing control of the Champions League playoff with two goals in the opening ten minutes. Darijo Beljo struck first in the sixth minute, before Marko Lisica added a second just four minutes later to give the hosts an apparently commanding position. Viking FK faced a mountain to climb, but the Norwegian side refused to wilt under the pressure.

The visitors clawed their way back into the contest with stunning efficiency. Pål Christiansen halved the deficit in the 26th minute, and just thirteen minutes later, Zoran Tripić completed an improbable turnaround to level the match at GNK Dinamo Zagreb 2-2 Viking FK. The momentum had shifted completely, and Dinamo found themselves fighting to hold on rather than pressing for a third. Viking's resilience had fundamentally altered the complexion of the tie.

Despite their early dominance, Dinamo could not find a way through as the match wore on. The introductions of fresh legs made little difference, with both sides cancelling each other out in a cagey second half. A yellow card for Viking's J. Bell in the 65th minute was a minor punctuation mark in an increasingly balanced affair.

The draw leaves the tie genuinely open heading into the return leg. GNK Dinamo Zagreb squandered the chance to take a decisive advantage with their blistering start, while Viking FK will take heart from their comeback and the knowledge that an away draw in Europe is a respectable foundation. Both teams now face the prospect of deciding this playoff on neutral ground or in the cauldron of the second fixture, with nothing settled and everything still to play for.
