Moore y Solanke lanzan al Spurs ante Charlton en la goleada de Carabao
Tottenham Hotspur made light work of their Carabao Cup assignment, sweeping aside Charlton Athletic with a commanding 5-1 victory at home. The tie had never carried much tension once the hosts established early control, though the visitors proved willing competitors on an August evening when the hosts' superior quality simply proved too much to handle.
The opening goal arrived in the 41st minute when Micky Moore broke the deadlock to give Spurs a deserved lead. Solanke doubled that advantage before the interval, putting his side firmly in the driving seat heading into the break. Charlton's Nathan Jones picked up a yellow card in the 39th minute as the visitors struggled to contain Tottenham's attacking play, while Richie Apter was also cautioned before half-time as frustration crept into their rearguard.
Any hope Charlton may have harbored of a second-half recovery evaporated within minutes of the restart. Kristian Danso added a third in the 67th minute to stretch Tottenham's lead beyond reach, and from that point the tie became a procession rather than a contest. The hosts never looked threatened once they established their three-goal cushion, and the away side found themselves chasing shadows throughout the remainder of the encounter.
Luan Bergvall received a caution early in the first half for Tottenham, though this proved merely a footnote in a performance where the hosts controlled proceedings with relative ease. Both sides managed their discipline reasonably well thereafter, with the match settling into a rhythm dictated almost entirely by Spurs' comfortable position. Charlton's task became containment rather than creation as the evening wore on.
Tottenham's passage into the next round is assured, and the emphatic scoreline offers Ange Postecoglou's side genuine momentum heading into their Premier League campaign. Charlton, meanwhile, will reflect on an afternoon where they were simply outclassed by their wealthier opponents. The gulf in class proved decisive, and the Addicks depart north London with little to show for their efforts beyond a consolation goal they managed to salvage late in proceedings.
