Peterborough écrase Watford dans une victoire surprise en Coupe Carabao

Peterborough United came to Vicarage Road and dismantled Watford with a clinical, ruthless display that left the hosts with nowhere to hide. The visitors struck early and often, establishing complete control long before the final whistle. By the time Watford managed their solitary goal, the contest was already decided.

The first half set the tone for what would become a rout. J. Clarridge's own goal handed Peterborough the lead inside ten minutes, a gift that seemed to stun the home crowd. H. Leonard doubled the advantage thirteen minutes later, and by the interval, Watford faced a mountain to climb. Peterborough's movement and positioning had exposed Watford's backline repeatedly, and the away side pressed their advantage without mercy.

Whatever hope Watford harboured of a second-half revival evaporated within minutes of the restart. Leonard struck again on 51 minutes, and then B. Shofowoke made it four just four minutes later. The game had become a procession. H. Jones added a fifth on 64 minutes, and Peterborough were simply playing out time. M. Doumbia pulled one back for Watford in the 73rd minute, a consolation that mattered only to the scoreboard.

Watford never found a foothold in the midfield and surrendered possession far too cheaply throughout. Peterborough controlled tempo and space with uncommon ease for a second-round tie, moving the ball quickly and pressing with discipline. The hosts struggled to create any sustained attacking threat and offered little resistance to the away side's dominance.

G. Nevett picked up a yellow card for Peterborough in the 83rd minute as the match wore on, but by then the outcome was beyond doubt. Neither side had players sent off, and discipline remained largely intact in the closing stages. The visitors managed the final moments with the comfort of a team already through.

This result sends Peterborough United into the next round with genuine momentum and serves as a harsh reality check for Watford. The scale of the defeat will demand answers from the home camp.
