Beşiktaş écrase Žalgiris pour atteindre le tour suivant de la Ligue Europa

Beşiktaş JK delivered a statement performance in the Europa League playoff round, dismantling FK Kauno Žalgiris with a ruthless display at home. The Turkish side showed their intent from the opening moments, and the Lithuanians found themselves under immediate pressure in what became a thoroughly one-sided affair.

The hosts struck with clinical efficiency, H. Oh opening the scoring in just the sixth minute to set the tone for the evening. A. Murillo doubled the lead within six minutes, and Beşiktaş controlled possession and territory with such authority that Žalgiris offered little resistance. The away side's defending was fragile in the opening stages, allowing their hosts to establish a commanding position before most supporters had settled into their seats.

Beşiktaş extended their advantage after the interval when O. Kökçü converted a penalty in the 60th minute, effectively ending any lingering hope Žalgiris harboured of staging a comeback. That spot kick epitomised the gulf between the two sides, with Beşiktaş's superiority now reflected in a 3-0 scoreline that flattered neither team's competitive balance nor suggested the Lithuanians possessed any method to breach the home defence.

The second half became a procession rather than a contest, with Beşiktaş content to manage the game's tempo while Žalgiris trudged through proceedings without conviction. Neither side created genuine moments of drama as the match drifted towards its conclusion, though Beşiktaş's attacking threat remained omnipresent whenever they chose to press forward. The visitors showed occasional flashes of organisation but lacked the quality to trouble their hosts with any regularity.

Discipline began to tell as the match wore on, with Žalgiris picking up three yellow cards in the closing stages. F. Baldassarra, R. Oliveira and A. Tolordava all received cautions between the 67th and 72nd minutes, suggesting the visitors' frustration grew as their European adventure stalled. Beşiktaş navigated the final stretch without incident, managing the match professionally to secure a comprehensive victory.

The result sends Beşiktaş through to the next round with their qualification secured decisively, while Žalgiris departs with plenty to address ahead of their domestic campaign. For the Turkish side, this comfortable progression underlines their credentials in Europe, and they advance with momentum firmly in their favour.
