Ossett United's FA Cup qualifying campaign got off to a difficult start when Pontefract Collieries' B. Middleton was sent off in the third minute, leaving the visitors down to ten men from the off.
Despite their numerical advantage, Ossett took a long time to break through. The home side pressed for a winner throughout the second half and finally found it in the 82nd minute when D. Morton gave them a 1-0 lead. Ossett United held on through five minutes of stoppage time to secure a 1-0 victory over Pontefract Collieries.
