Elche stuns Espanyol with early double at home

Elche got off to a flying start despite going down to ten men early on. F. Redondo was sent off in the sixth minute, but the away side made their numerical advantage count in the opening half. F. Niño struck twice in quick succession, finding the net in the 26th minute with R. Revivo providing the assist, then again three minutes later, also assisted by R. Revivo. Niño was booked in the 22nd minute for his part in the early chaos.

Espanyol pulled one back late in the match when V. Chust diverted the ball into his own net in the 72nd minute. Any hopes of a comeback were ended when G. Valera added a fourth for Elche in the 78th minute, assisted by T. Morente. Espanyol finished the match with ten men of their own after C. Riedel was sent off in the 82nd minute, leaving them unable to mount any further threat. The final score was Espanyol 1-3 Elche.
